Aliso Creek Rest Area Renovation
Aliso Creek Rest Area on the I-5 just North of Camp Pendelton is one of the busiest Rest Areas in the Country. It's location attracts many passer bys leaving San Diego on their way to Los Angeles. It has a great view of the Pacific Ocean and nearby marsh areas. Caltrans sponsored this project at a cost of nearly $600,ooo. Work included: landscape, hardscape, plumbing, electrical, new telephone booths, roofing and other minor work. I was directly in charge of dealing with the Contractor in the everyday activities and the public. An additional Santa Fe Railroad track was built over the Dominguez Channel in Los Angeles County to aliviate traffic over the existing single decreptic track . Fifteen 24" CIDH piles were installed in the channel's bed in order to build five separate bridge abutments. The bridge and all appurtenances had a total cost of over $1.5M because of the Environmental issues associated with the project. |
Carmel Valley Rd & I-15
Two retaining walls with a 'cobblestone look' were built to be used as a sound barrier between Navy Housing and a very loud, high vehicle volume freeway, I-15. Caltrans was the project sponsor, this project came in at a cost of $1.2M. I was directly in charge of coordinating the everyday activities between the Caltrans' Structure Rep and the Contractor. The County of Los Angeles built through a design-build project a large pump station to collect and distribute storm water. The project was located in a very dense neighborhood and the pump station had to be built from the top down by using 2ft cast-in-drilled-hole piles 88ft long. Water came in through a deep underground tunnel that crossed under the Alameda Corridor. The cost for this project came in at over $5.6M. I was directly in charge of Quality Assurance for this and 12 other projects. Acted as a Responsible in Charge Quality Assurance Manager for the Los Angeles County. This large project had an associated cost of over $2.2B dollars. I dealt with many Contractors in different Cities and each one had their own Spec to follow. I coordinated between these municipalities and the L. A. County. |
